What a great little find. Located in a part of town I never really knew existed from my previous trips, Niko's is a bit of a hole in the wall in an absolutely terrible shopping center. The people are quite friendly, and the food comes up quick...I think. More on that later. I got the pastitsio (Greek lasagna) with a Greek salad and garlic bread. Carryout. All of it was fantastic. The piece of pastitsio was HUGE and so, so delicious. The Greek salad was equally as large and fantastic, and the garlic bread was...well, garlic bread. Seriously, I could have split this dish no problem due to its excessive size, which isn't bad for less than $14 with tax. As for their pizza looks kinda nasty. Rather, it's not my kind of pizza. I am a bit of a pizza snob though. I didn't taste it, just saw it, and it didn't look like something I would enjoy. BUT, I have been wrong before. So why do I only "think" their food comes up fast? That has to do with their archaic cash only policy. I had $13.50 on me, and the total was $13.93 or something like that. I asked for an ATM, and she pointed me (somewhat rudely) next door to a liquor store. Said liquor store had a broken ATM, so I went back and said "I need to go find a new ATM, but I will be back, and here is my $13.50 to guarantee that I'll be back". I went to the Food Lion, also with a broken ATM. I finally had to get in my car and drive to the closest bank. By the time I got back, my food was obviously ready (it had been 15 minutes or so in total). I would be happy to pay 3% or more to use my debit card, especially since my ATM fee ended up being much more than that. Rant over. Food tasty.

I ordered the gyro and was VERY pleased! I just can't believe I've lived in SOMD for six years and am just now discovering the joint! Of course, you would never know the place was a Greek establishment by slapping the word pizza in their title. I was a little surprised by the price, a gyro, fries, and a fountain drink was $13! The serving size was rather large though. The restaurant was cozy, clean, and friendly. I'm definitely going back.
(5)David F.
The gyros are fair to good here but nothing to get too excited about. It's all a bit over-priced for a small, rural local business. Don't worry about the atmosphere. It's grungy and sketchy, but that's kind of what you want when digging into a lamb gyro late at night. If you are in the area and want Greek, this is pretty much your only option. It could be worse.

The Pizza was so so. The toppings were good but the mushrooms were from a can. Tons of olives compared to the other toppings; they over powered the entire pizza. The Fried mushrooms were great! 7$ 40$ for a pizza that was wet and falling apart. I'll stick with St. James pizza. After talking with the other members of the house hold. We are changing my rating to a 1. I guess I was accounting for the friendly staff. They were nice. Cash only. Not worth it especially for a place that flashes a HUGE pizza lit sign out front.
(1)Pat H.
Don't come dressed up. This is a very local place that serves tasty gyros (all I order here so far) and crisp baskets of fries. They get busy at lunch.
(4)Alexis P.
The ladies working here were very sweet, not to mention the gyro I've had here tasted delicious! I've lived in st Mary's county 16 years and only learned this place had gyros a few months ago. For one thing, it's poorly advertised and the sign outside says PIZZA which is very misleading. Change the sign to the actual restaurant name! I guarantee that will increase customer base and the business. Apparently, it's been around since the 70s. Anyway, just know they do not accept card so come prepared with cash.
(4)Freddie B.
I heard so much about this place and its gyros so I decided to try one. The meat was extremely salty and dry. No sauce on it what so ever and the bread was wet for some reason. I did not enjoy it at all. The next day I come back and ask for sauce because they didn't give me any the first day and they charged me for it. I have heard other stories about how good this place gyros are but I disagree. Don't know if they just gave me a bad one or not but I will not order another group from here. However I did order a calzone and it was damn near perfect. If you go there you have to try them. Oh and no atm bring cash before you get there all ATMs in the area have a 3-5 charge. And call ahead they say 20 mins to make anything don't know if it really takes that long or they just like saying that.
(2)Tracy M.
Beef gyro portion size was huge! Small pepperoni pizza is enough to serve 2 nice size slices for 4 people. Cooked to order and delightfully tender with authentic Greek taste. Pre made baklava was so tender and by far a delicious dessert. This place only takes cash but is by far the best Greek I've ever had
(5)Michelle B.
Excellent Greek! Love that it's a mom & pop! Pretty great pizza too. A favorite of ours!
(5)Debbie H.
I guess great pizza is in the eye of the beholder; my pizza was okay at best.
(2)Daysi C.
Gyros was excellent! No credit cards, just cash.good food.
(5)Kristi M.
We went to Niko's just a bit back and they had the best Gyros in the area (only one's we have found so far) close to the house ( Hollywood). And they were huge. The lamb was good and seasoned properly. And they had beer which makes a weekend lunch great. I just wish they were open on Sundays. Tzatziki sauce was a bit thick, but I can deal with that. If they were to make it fresh, maybe that would fix the issue. We will be going back soon. Have been craving gyros for a while. Price was right also for the size.
(5)Joe S.
Wow what a hidden gem. Food was excellent remember to bring cash and don't be scared of St. Mary's Plaza, maybe at night but park close ;)
(4)Raymond N.
If you want a great tasting gyro than this is the place. Prices are a little over the top, but I'm willing to pay for great quality.
(4)Dana P.
Another Lexington Park Dive. The Greek-ness in the Gyro is authentic and the speed with which it is delivered makes this a great place for a quick lunch. They only take cash. Why anyone would go to a greek restaurant and have a pizza is beyond me. Have the gyro, french fries and a cold drink from the fridge. Follow up with Baklava. If you forgot cash, there's an ATM in the liquor store next door.
(3)Celia W.
I've been going to Niko's since I was in high school and I have to say, I love it. It almost makes me want to go back to St. Mary's just for a gyro.
(5)Lionel P.
I was looking for this place for like 4 days. Gps brought me to some construction site; which was kind of frustrating. When I finally found the place they didn't except credit cards. Smh. After the quest to find a working ATM was complete I got my Gyro and smashed it! It was so delicious. Reminded me of food in New York City. I will definitely be going back.... With cash next time
(4)Laura M.
I LOVE Niko's pizza! I have been going to Nikos since I was a kid, and my parents would take me for a pizza. Now as an adult, I enjoy the Greek food that is served, as well as the pizza that has to be the best in St. Mary's County (or anywhere else!). The staff is very friendly, and the place is cozy. Just make sure you bring cash, because they don't do credit cards. This is usually one of the only reasons I don't frequent it as much as I would like because I usually don't carry cash. But if you happen to go and not have any cash on you, there is a liqour store next door that has an ATM.
(5)Scott S.
This place does not have that great of pizza, in fact no place in St. Mary's has good pizza...that being said...the greatest thing about this place is the Greek food. They should play on that much more and take away the large lighted PIZZA sign and play their strengths with their greek food. The pork souvlaki sandwich is the best. I feel this place would be better appreciated if it were relocated to where all the rest of the good restaurants in St. Mary's are located...San Souci Plaza.
(5)Jim K.
Great Gryos, nearly perfect. Atmosphere - just okay, not what you are hear for.
(3)Cat W.
I found this place while searching for a local gyro. I have driven by this place a million times and no idea they even sold gyros until I was tipped off by a friend. The outside of this place screams pizza, the name says pizza, the door says pizza, and there's nothing more than a sunwashed vintage gyro poster tucked in the window to indicate that maybe this place is good for more than pizza. I ordered carry out and was charged more than I expected. I never ever carry cash, so I made a point of checking menu prices to be sure I had enough before I went. I was charged about $4 more than what I had calculated with tax, a real disaster when the place doesn't accept debit/credit cards. Just an fyi for others, bring extra cash-maybe the prices have changed but they haven't updated the menus. My boyfriend tried the stromboli, which was really more like a calzone and we both felt that it had really missed the mark. In a nutshell, it was too greasy, had way too much cheese and I've had prepackaged pizza dough that tasted better. He even remarked that my homemade stromboli tasted much better and I had to agree. Of course I had the gyro. I am a bit of a gyro snob. It started when I was 4 and my dad took me to a restaurant that served authentic greek gyros. I remember sitting on his hip, watching a cook slice fresh gyro meat from a rotating vertical spindle. I've found that very few places still cut from a vertical spindle, so if you are fortunate enough to ever find a place that does, do yourself a favor and order the gyro! I've eaten many gyros, some better than others. I've seen them done wrong when restaurants cut corners and "Americanize" the poor gyro with prepackaged meat and sour cream instead of yogurt sauce. Niko's gyro was quite good-a fresh warm pita filled with lettuce, onion, tomato and overflowing with long thick strips of gyro meat. The tzatziki sauce appeared to be homemade and it was delicious. I shared a bite with my boyfriend, which left him eager for more. He even asked if I wanted to trade for his botched stromboli. It was hard to believe that both meals had come from the same kitchen. The gyro had been done right by someone that knew what they were doing. After a few bites, I was convinced that someone in the kitchen was definitely GREEK. Could it be that this place is having a bit of an identity crisis?? I'm sure we'll be going back and we'll both order gyros next time. I'm eager to try the other greek menu items.
(4)B W.
Great gyros a little pricey. I still go often.
(4)Corey S.
Best pizza I've found in Lexington Park. The guy that said St. James was better is wrong, St. James is ok but it tastes pretty much like Dominoes pizza. If you actually like pizza and not the cardboard taste go to Nikos The only thing that sucks is that it's cash only (come on now, it's 2015 buy a card reader)
(5)Chris B.
The best gyro I've had in a long time. This place gets it right with a well balanced portion of shaved lamb and fresh LTO, crumbled feta cheese and light sauce.
(5)Theresa M.
We been here 18 year's now & It's one of best family owned and operated places left in our little place here in SOMD. So many things have changed & gone out of business here. I hope that they can continue to bring that hometown Greek food for years to come.
(4)Briene B.
the best gyros! the best pizza! the best greek salad! the best food across the board! I'm in love!
(5)Tanya C.
They only take cash! Gyro was ok but huge sized portion! I have had better but it wasn't bad so that's always a plus !
(3)E B.
Great local place - best gyros in the county. I've been coming here for gyros for 5 years - my workmates and I have a Gyro Friday tradition. The tzaziki sauce is very good. The pizza is also very good, rivaling St James Deli for best in the county, except the crust is tasteless. The pepperoni, cheese, and sauce are New York style - very good. They now take credit cards! Big change - happy for it. Don't look for warm, smiling customer service. The lady who runs the place is efficient, but not gushing. The staff is quick. The tables and chairs are usually wobbly and the booths are not particularly comfortable, but for a great gyro, it's a decent sacrifice.
